Utilizing video data in different IoT and smart city applications beside deployment of numerous objects in various domains of smart cities, produces bulk data which requires efficient and suitable communication protocol for data transmission. In this paper, a push-based method for increasing performance of block- wise transfer for CoAP, as a suitable protocol for video transmission, is proposed. To evaluate the impact of the proposed method on video transmission, a comparison with some of its rivals for video transmission such as RTP and HTTP and their transport layer protocols named TCP and UDP is performed. It is shown that the proposed method can increase video transmission speed of block-wise transfer in common network infrastructure (with low loss rates) and with a lower overhead of CoAP, it can outperforms other mentioned protocols.
