Automatic seismic interpolation usually plays a key role in reducing the human labors. Here, we present a simple and practical approach to interpolate sparsely picked velocity to the 3D uniform sampling grids along structures. The basic idea of the method is to utilize the geological structural features extracted from seismic image to guide the interpolation process without picking horizons. We first apply structure-oriented smoothing filter to the whole 3D targeted velocity volume, and then introduce a smart mask concept to follow the same smoothing process as the velocity volume. This mask serves as the interpolation coefficients. Finally the 3D velocity cube can be obtained by a simple point-to-point division of the smoothed velocity volume and the mask. Both the synthetic examples and field datasets demonstrate the feasibility and robustness of our proposed method.
