Transfer-Function Linear Graphs

Clarence Wilfred de Silva · 2017

This chapter considers the dynamic equivalence of a complex and extensive subsystem of a system and a simple model of the subsystem, when viewed from the remaining "simple segment of interest" of the system. It identifies the simple segment of interest of the system. For example, system output may be within subsystem A. The chapter represents the remaining subsystem of the system by an equivalent, yet simple model. The criterion of equivalence in this case is such that the dynamic response of A within the actual system is the same as the response of A when it is connected to M. In developing the equivalent model M, we will consider two types of equivalence, which are commonly used in the analysis of electrical circuits: Thevenin equivalence and Norton equivalence. By this approach, different types of linear time-domain models can be represented by equivalent, simpler models. The chapter integrates the approaches of Transfer-Function (TFs) and Linear Graphs (LGs) for this purpose.
