Effect of a Telepresence Robot on Remote Students' Bodily Impressions: Extended or Mended Body
Françoise Poyet · 2018
The emergence of robotics in numerous sectors of society, and particularly in education, provides a real possibility of enabling the inclusion of students with physical disabilities. This chapter examines the new ontophany brought about by the telepresence robot. It delves into the perceptual differences of remote students and analyzes in more detail the nature of the relationships that can be established between human and technology. The bodily schema is a kind of postural standard to which the subject refers permanently. This knowledge of his own body thus allows the individual to coordinate his gestures and to orient himself in the environment in which he finds himself, along three axes: top-bottom, left-right and front-back. The telepresence robot is not a training artifact that fits in line with a certain tradition of digital practice (as is the case for videoconferencing, for example), because it introduces fundamental changes in perception for its user.
