Signature-Free Watermark for Protecting Digital Signal Processing Cores Used in CE Devices [Hardware Matters]

Digital signal processing (DSP) cores are integral components of consumer electronics (CE) devices. However, intellectual property (IP) cores suffer from the possibility of piracy, forgery, and fake ownership. To address these issues, this article presents the following: (1) a signature-free watermarking process for protecting DSP cores, (2) a covert, signature-free watermark that provides robust security at nominal overhead, and (3) a watermark detection process that can be demonstrated through a functional validation process.
