A Service Provisioning Layer Enabling Simplex-Minded Function Development on Integrated Modular Avionics Hardware

This paper describes the successful integration of generic system management concepts of the Flexible Avionics Platform into a commercial Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) system to open the Flexible-Platform-Approach for CS25 aircraft. Compliance with IMA scheduling, interface and partitioning requirements is demonstrated. Primary results are the introduction and implementation of the Service Provisioning Layer (SPL) to achieve ARINC653P4 compatibility. The Flexible Platform is executed in a contained environment without interference with other applications. Furthermore, the certified IMA toolchain remains unaltered and the industry's criteria for implementation are met. Legacy applications and hardware do not have to be redeveloped and re-certified. This allows an incremental integration of the Flexible-Platform-Approach in CS25 aircraft.
