On the Accuracy of Measurements of Probabilities of Loss in Telephone Systems

Lauren Kosten, J. R. Manning, Fiona Garwood · Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B (Statistical Methodology) · 1949

Summary For a simple type of telephone system, expressions are obtained for the first few moments of the distributions of the number of lost calls and of the total time for which the system is blocked by congestion. It is believed that the results will be valuable when planning experiments to determine corresponding quantities in more complicated systems, where the problems are less amenable to mathematical analysis.
