This project aims at developing an “open-source” Raspberry Pi hearing assistance device which implements a binaural beamforming algorithm, allowing a user to focus on a speaker in front. The prototype was assembled with available consumer hardware for about US$73 in total. Python, with its rich audio signal processing libraries, was used to allow the system running in real-time. The system was experimentally evaluated in an anechoic room. The source code including instructions to build the system is freely available on Github. Video examples demonstrating how the system works are also available online.
