A Note on Vacancies on a Line

Frank Downton · Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B (Statistical Methodology) · 1961

SUMMARY A number n of vacant sites in a row are occupied by filling adjacent pairs of sites at random until only isolated vacancies remain. From the stretches of occupied sites between vacancies adjacent pairs are selected at random until only isolated filled sites, trapped points, remain. Some properties of these stretches and trapped points are discussed.
