Image Segmentation Using Global Optimal Contour

Abstract. This paper proposes an image segmentation method using global optimal contour. The segmentation problems is treated as finding a series of contours, which approximate region boundaries, to optimize a cost function representing the features of segmented regions and boundaries. A variation of genetic algorithm has been proposed to search the global optimal contours. This method has been implemented using C/C++ and experiments have been conducted to study its performance. 1
