An Optimised BCD Digit Multiplier

Decimal multiplication plays an important role in the field of banking, tax calculation, accounts fixation etc. This paper aims at providing a new architectural design for fixed point BCD product calculation. The proposed BCD digit multiplier includes two stages, first being the BCD digit multiplier yielding a binary product followed by a binary to BCD converter module. It is observed from the simulation results that the proposed multiplier achieves a reduction in terms of area and delay when compared to the existing designs in computing the BCD product.
