This study examines the features of electricity demand in different frequency. Generally electricity demand data has unit root. Therefore, most studies on electricity demand focuses on the cointegration relation of the data. As Granger (1966) noted, the spectral mass of economic variables is concentrated mostly at low frequencies. Yang (2000) shows that temporal aggregation could incur changes in the features of time series. This study contributes to the literature in two ways. First, it shows that lower frequency electricity demand data has a unit root while higher frequency electricity data does not share the same feature as higher frequency counterpart. Second, this study also shows that lower frequency electricity data has cointegration relations with other economic variables such as GDP. This would provide a foundation for constructing a model to predict long-run electricity demand.
