Measurements and Trends of Geant4 Software Evolution

Maria Grazia Pia, Elisabetta Ronchieri · 2017

The Geant4 simulation toolkit is a mature, large scale scientific software system, which is the result of more than two decades' development. Software metrics - concerning various aspects of the code (like object-oriented feature) and code entities (such as classes and files) - have been used to assess quantitatively the evolution of Geant4 software. Their measurements have been analyzed by means of trend tests in order to objectively recognize improvements and possibly degradation of software characteristics at the desired depth in the package structure. In this contribution, we illustrate a sample of Geant4 software evolution, detailing the methodology and tools used.
