Replacing Idioms Based on Their Figurative Usage

Idioms are important part of everyday English. In one sense, idioms are defined as ambiguous if it has plausible meaning both in figurative and literal usage. It is difficult to understand its sense in figurative expression. Therefore, phrasal substitution for idiomatic expression in such special contexts has great applications, especially in NLP related fields. This approach identifies idioms in a sentence and recognizes idiom usage by incorporating some elements of context. Then identifies relevant replacement for figurative phrase by extracting knowledge from idioms dictionary definition and perform post editing to fit seamlessly to the original sentence.
