Opinion Metric Based Intrusion Detection Mechanism for RPL Protocol in IoT

Ashwini Nikam, Dayanand D. Ambawade · 2018

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of smart tiny devices which are restricted by processing power and energy consumption. Because of these restriction, it is difficult to use some existing security mechanisms to protect devices against network attacks. Implementation of the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) results in secure IoT network but requires more computing and processing power. In this research, we proposed the lightweight opinion metric based intrusion detection mechanism against malicious attacks on routing protocol in IoT network. This mechanism uses opinion metrics to compute average belief values for every node in network and detect the malicious node based on that value in energy favorable way. The simulation results interpret the quality performance in detection of harmful attack in IoT network.
