Broadcasting a Stream of Chunks in Heterogeneous Networks with a Short Maximum Broadcast Time

Satoshi Fujita · Journal of Interconnection Networks · 2018

This paper considers the problem of broadcasting a stream of chunks in heterogeneous networks with a short maximum broadcast time (MBT). This problem is motivated by the delivery of video streams to all nodes in Peer-to-Peer networks in which a stream of chunks corresponding to a subscribed video stream is continuously served by an external media server. We model the heterogeneity of nodes by the variance of the upload capacity of nodes. The idea of the proposed scheme is to effectively utilize the residual upload capacity of high-capacity nodes. Experimental evaluations indicate that the proposed scheme nearly attains a theoretical lower bound on the MBT.
