On Increasing Dependability of Web Services - an Approach to Design a Failure Detection Service

In recent years, the rapid proliferation of development and deployment of distributed systems based on service-oriented architecture (SOA) has been observed. Since for many SOA applications the dependability aspect is particularly important, the provision of a satisfactory level of failure monitoring in SOA systems is a crucial practical and research problem. To solve this problem, we have proposed FADE Failure Detection Service. In this paper we focus on the various aspects related to the communication layer of the proposed solution, used during exchanging the monitoring information. The proposed communications protocols aim in increasing the efficiency of FADE nodes cooperation and the scalability of the proposed service.
