The purpose of this article is to study the energy efficiency of embedded systems dedicated to the Internet of Things solutions. For the purposes of this article, an intelligent waste management system has been developed that is based on non-contact measurement of impurities in the waste container using a laser sensor and wirelessly sending collected information about the level of the tank to the cloud. The embedded system that manages the measurement of impurities and send data is the MSP430 family of Texas Instruments. In order to research the energy efficiency of the built-in system, a prototype of the impurity tank with built-in laser sensor, GSM / GPRS transmitter and OLED display was made. A series of studies on the energy consumption and predicted operating time of the built-in battery power system are shown in the graphs. At the end of the article is a summary of the methods used to increase the energy efficiency of the embedded system, based on the research conducted. The proposed waste management system is unique and currently not available on the Polish market.
