An interview with Professor Virendra B. Mahesh

Dr Virendra B. Mahesh is Regents Professor and Chairman Emeritus, Department of Physiology and Endocrinology at the Medical College of Georgia (now Augusta University). He received his Ph.D. degree in 1955 from Delhi University, India, in Organic Chemistry and D.Phil. from Oxford University, UK, in Biological Sciences in 1958. After a year's postdoctoral fellowship as James Hudson Brown Memorial Fellow at Yale University School of Medicine, he joined the Medical College of Georgia as Assistant Research Professor of Endocrinology in 1959. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 1963 and Professor in 1966. He was appointed Regents Professor 1970–1999, Chairman of the Department of Endocrinology 1972–1986, and Chairman of the Department of Physiology and Endocrinology 1986–1999. Dr Mahesh has served on the Editorial Boards of Steroids, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism; Journal of Endocrinology, and Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He served as Editor-in-Chief of Biology of Reproduction from1999 to 2004. He also has served on numerous NIH study sections.
