FIWARE for Industry: A Data‐driven Reference Architecture
S. De Panfilis, Sergio Gusmeroli, Jorge Villacieros Rodriguez, Jesús Benedicto · 2018
This chapter describes an approach for “smart industries” that goes well beyond the reference architectures (RA) model for Industry 4.0 such as industry value chain reference architecture (IVRA) and industrial Internet reference architecture (IIRA). It demonstrates how FIWARE architecture and open source platforms could be extended with additional enablers relevant for the Industry sector, to implement data-driven smart industry-integrated applications. FIWARE platform provides a simple yet powerful set of application programming interfaces (APIs) that ease the development of smart applications in multiple vertical sectors. FogFlow uses the FIWAREs NGSI data model as a container architecture into which many different data can be placed, and enables the allocation of FogFlow components to either cloud or edge servers. The main goal of the RA and the implementation of FIWARE specific enablers covering manufacturing needs are to help industrial companies in their digital transformation, trying to eliminate existing barriers in the adoption of new technologies and platforms.
