The seismic simulation code SW4 was adapted to run on modern supercomputers. SW4 solves the elastic wave equation in second order formulation. It uses a fourth order accurate finite difference method with explicit time stepping. The approximation conserves energy perfectly, and is stable under a CFL restriction on the time step.
