Cheque truncation system(CTS) is a Reserve Bank of India product launched in 2010 for speedier clearing of bank cheques. CTS collects the MICR value and the cheque's image from the sending bank and transfers it to the receiving bank, electronically. Though it eliminates clearing related frauds and physical movement of cheques, a new issue of security arises since the data passes through air. Security violations such as third party attacks, message modification, denial of service etc can happen. As a solution to that, the cheque image can be made secure using SVD watermarking and AES encryption. All noises can be removed through some means of filtering for the proper processing, and the signature and logo in the image should be verified for accuracy. To avoid skew errors due to improper placement in the scanners, a skew correction technique will also be performed. A way to retrieve the MICR code and the pantograph region can also be implemented to provide more robustness. Overall through these secure measures, the operational efficiency of bank cheques can be upgraded. Customer service can be improved and can provide a secure and safe banking to the public.
