Support Opportunistic En-Route Information Mashup of IoT Data
Lijun Dong, Richard Z. Li · 2018
Given the wide usage of mashup in IoT applications, it becomes an important functionality that is supported by the most influential IoT/M2M platforms, e.g. oneM2M. However, it is provided in a centralized way by the overlay gateways or servers, which introduces many inefficiencies. It has been envisioned that the future Internet will become intelligent, computation capable. In this paper, we propose the functional components of information mashup capable Internet router. The information mashup will be carried out in a distributed way. A new block of information is proposed to be extended to the IP packet to integrate the information mashup with data request. The new data request can be dispatched at intermediate routers if multiple data is involved in the information mashup. The mechanisms of processing information mashup integrated data request message and the returned data message are illustrated. We show the dramatic performance improvement on saving the network bandwidth and user experienced latency with little control overhead increase.
