Evaluating the Usability of Flat Panel Displays: A Case Study of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology
Ntima Mabanza · 2018
The purpose of this study was to, based on students' experiences, evaluate the usability of flat panel displays (FPDs) as a general communication platform. The main focus was to identify potential usability issues as well as suggest possible solutions that could best enhance current FPD-based communication in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT). Two usability evaluation methods (UEMs), namely user testing and questionnaires, were used in order to evaluate FPD-based communication. The collected data was analyzed and categorized into three categories, namely content quality, text navigation and visual aesthetics. The findings revealed that the usability issues surrounding FPD encountered by the Department of Information Technology (DIT) students were related to content quality and text navigation. A number of recommendations for successful FPD-based communication are made as well.
