Population-Based Optimization Algorithms Used in Improving Performance of Rectifier Transformer

Population Swarm Optimization algorithms are often used for solving complex engineering problems, including those related to transformers (diagnostics, operation, design). Application of two algorithms: Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) is presented in the paper. These algorithms have been used to calculate possible improvement in the harmonic content of DC voltage generated in the circuit consisting of Yyd transformer and two diode rectifiers under varying supply conditions. Difference in performance of two investigated algorithms is shown. The obtained solutions are satisfactory from engineering point of view.
