An Approach for Detecting Critical Adaptations in Automated Adaptive Software Systems
Shuji Morisaki, Norimitsu Kasai · 2018
In environments involving a variety of connected devices and systems, there is an ever-increasing demand for automatic adaptation. In such environments, the quality assurance activities includes design-time testing and inspection that should focus on determining the automation levels and assessing the reliability of critical automatic adaptations that may potentially threaten life, property, or privacy to ensure that all threats have been identified and are manageable. This paper proposes an approach for identifying and assessing critical automated adaptations on the basis of their automation level and reliability by decomposing the adaptations into acquisition, analysis, decision, and action stages. The proposed approach provides structured views to enable efficient quality assurance activities. In addition, an example analysis of an imaginary train speed limit enforcement system is presented.
