Reusable Support for Task-Based Adaptive Navigation

Yonglei Tao · 2018

Adaptive navigation promises to guide the user through an application in an efficient way. Information about the user's current activities is important for its adaptation engine to recognize user needs and choose adaptation strategies; therefore, the capability to track user activities is indispensable in support for adaptive navigation. However, implementation of this capability often relies on intimate knowledge of the target application, which makes its development and maintenance rather difficult. We propose a two-step approach to achieving the reusability of the user activity tracking capability. We use aspect-oriented instrumentation to capture user interface events and then conduct model-based analysis to identify user tasks from event traces. Our approach provides reusable support for adaptive navigation at the task level.
