Three-Stage OLS Method for Improved Lossless Image Coding

Grzegorz Ulacha, Ryszard Stasiński · 2018

In the paper a new efficient while moderately complex lossless image coding technique is presented, 3ST-OLS. The main idea consists in cascading predictors: OLS and two-stage NLMS ones. Then cumulated prediction error is corrected by an advanced method based on four classes of contexts and three algorithms. A new improved version of CoBALP algorithm is analyzed, in which OLS stage is replaced by CoBALP predictor. It is shown that the 3ST-OLS technique has almost the same data compaction properties as much more computationally complex state-of-art methods, while the new CoBALPultra2 is somewhat inferior, but less complex computationally.
