Inherent Meanings from the Environmental Impacts of the Production and Performance of Electronic Music

Michael Blandino · 2018

The performance of electronic music is imbued with meanings related to associated ecological impacts resulting from its methods of production. These meanings include discourses related to implicated waste byproducts and their subsequent ecological effects. While such underlying features have been present since the inception of the genre, increased understanding and awareness of potential global catastrophe from climate change and of damage from electronic waste pollution brings contextual awareness of the truth of ecological impacts closer to the fore. A review and analysis of associated communication is conducted along with ethical considerations within their discourse, followed by a discussion of mitigation practices and compositional control of meanings suggested by the analysis.
