Decision Models for Software Testing

Fabrizio Ruggeri, Refik Soyer · 2018

This chapter considers different approaches, starting from the most common one based on decision theory. It presents a decision model based on the optimization of an objective function which combines testing and repair costs, as well as software reliability at its release time. This is followed by a sequential decision model where corrections and modifications are made to the software at the end of each test stage with the hope of increasing its reliability. The chapter also presents a multi-objective optimization approach. It describes a game theoretic approach where two players, namely an implementer and a tester, are involved in adversarial testing. The chapter provides few concluding remarks, mostly based on a new paradigm, adversarial risk analysis, which has been an area of increasing interest for researchers in recent years.
