Picture PassDoodle: Usability Study

David Schwab, Lama ALharbi, Oliver Nichols, Yang Li · 2018

Text password is the most widely used method for authentication. However, users have difficulty recalling secure passwords. Therefore, users will choose shorter, less secure passwords. Most psychologists have determined and proven that pictures can be easily remembered by users. Based on this finding, Picture PassDoodle is presented as an alternative solution to textual passwords. Picture PassDoodle uses free-form drawing to increase security and uses a background picture which has many points of interest to achieve usability features. In this paper, we conduct a user study to measure security, memorability, and usability. The results show that the participants found that the Picture PassDoodle is highly usable, more easily recalled, and offers more security over weak passwords.
