Automated software testing is a technology that allows the completion of test procedures with little or no human interaction from the initial test design to the final test execution. This technology benefits the testing process by increasing its efficiency and repeatability, reducing human error, and increasing the depth at which the analysis of the results is performed. This chapter describes the crucial phases of model-based automatic software testing and discusses existing challenges and solutions. It also discusses system modeling for testing and includes an introduction to current modeling languages and how to select the correct language. The chapter introduces the development of the operational profile. It also describes automated test case generation process, which includes a discussion of the test generation strategies and corresponding optimization algorithms. The chapter also introduces the necessary methods and tools for test execution.
