A Search‐Based Approach to Geographical Data Generation for Testing Location‐Based Services
Xiaoying Bai, Kejia Hou, Jun Zh. Huang, Mingli Yu · 2018
This chapter introduces the background of search-based testing. It proposes the method and algorithm of Location-Based Service (LBS) testing by simulated annealing. The chapter also proposes a testing framework to support automatic LBS testing from two aspects: geographical test data generation and query result verification, taking geocoding and reverse geocoding as illustrative LBS functions. Li and Longley proposed a monitoring-based approach where an LBS environment was built for studying the behavior and interactions between environments, individuals, and mobile devices. LBS testing is challenging due to the enormous input domain of geographical areas. To generate geographical data, a simulated-annealing algorithm is designed to formulate the problem as an iterative optimization search process. The chapter presents experiments on four open LBS platforms to illustrate the improvements in test productivity and defect detection efficiency. The four open LBS platforms are Amap Android, Tencent Android, Baidu Android, and Baidu Web.
