Measures in the Systems Integration Verification and Validation Phase and Aerospace Applications Field Experience

Sarit Assaraf, Ron S. Kenett · 2018

This chapter reviews the main elements of systems integration and testing methods, including systems of systems. System reliability can be calculated and predicted, but only testing and simulation during the different development stages can validate it. The chapter provides an overview of a range of validation and verification testing (VVT) methods. The typical test cycle consists of all the activities related to the VVT phase of the project. VVT activities, during the system integration phase, include simulation and analysis and a plan for system integration. The chapter presents an application of a methodology called software trouble assessment matrix (STAM) that generates metrics reflecting the development process performance. The STAM measurements analysis is applied to data from a large satellite program of Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI). The chapter concludes with a review of future challenges in integration testing methods and tools.
