A method of image segmentation, in particular for providing an object surface included within an image obtained by imaging an object with an image recording device, comprises the step of providing the object surface by an optimized surface contour extracted from the image, wherein the surface contour has been optimized on the basis of prior mechanical information on the object. In particular, the method comprises the steps of providing a cost functional, which depends on surface contour parameters, image data and the prior mechanical information of the object, optimizing the cost functional by varying the surface contour parameters, and image segmentation by providing the surface contour of the image determined by surface contour parameters included in the optimized cost functional. Furthermore, an imaging method and an imaging device are described.
