Nowadays in the industry, machines are responsible for controlling and triggering many processes, which contrasts with the fact that monitoring a large number of operations is an arduous task for a single human. However, the DCSs were created to allow only a human to be able to monitor and act on various processes through a central device equipped with an HMI. This paper discusses the development of an HMI dedicated to a DCS. The system has a control and data acquisition unit composed by an Arduino MEGA 2560 and an Ethernet Module. There is also an Ethernet communication network and an HMI developed in JAVA language. It is known that communication networks are critical parts of a DCS, as well as the possible delays that may exist. Therefore, this work brings a study and application on Ethernet networks and means to obtain better performance in sending and receiving data. The developed HMI operates with two transport protocols: TCP and UDP. In this way, it was possible to perform a comparison between the performance of both protocols, being useful for classroom activities, such as in undergraduate courses.
