Development in any sector throughout ages has been for the betterment of the human lives. While necessity has always leaded to wonderful creations, mankind has worked towards catering to the needs of people from various walks of life. Vision is one of the primary senses that assist greatly in carrying out everyday chores. Those with visual disabilities rely on their other senses greatly for performing various tasks. This paper presents the research carried out by us to develop a wearable device that will identify the texts in the surroundings of the wearer and convert it to voice message which will be given as feedback. We believe that it will reduce the dependence of blind people on others especially during commutation. The system consists of a small camera, a push button and a SoC(System on Chip) attached to a cap. The SoC is powered using a portable power bank. The camera captures the image, which is processed to extract the text present and converts it into voice signal that is transferred to the user. The setup is initiated on the press of a button, and helps the user make decisions regarding the directions to proceed and henceforth.
