Clustering is one of the major methodologies to minimize energy consumption in wireless sensor network. Energy consumption of Cluster Head is higher than that of its member nodes due to collection, aggregation and transmission of data to the base station which leads to faster energy depletion of CHs and reduction in the network life time. The proposed protocol, Fuzzy Logic based Energy Efficient Cluster Head (FLECH) divides the network into unequal clusters. In each cluster, CHs are chosen by Fuzzy Logic. For FLECH and LEACH protocol, simulation experiments are carried out and the total energy consumption in FLECH is 12.09% and 36.20% less in 100 and 200 node networks respectively when compared to LEACH protocol. This proves that the network lifetime has been improved in FLECH.
