Virtual machine (VM) management in the cloud has been an emerging topic of research these days. In this work VM allocation of physical machines in the cloud and VM migration algorithm is proposed. VM allocation and migration is considered as an NP Hard problem. So to calculate the exact optimal solution will take a large amount of time for large VM and PMs. So in this work meta-heuristic algorithms are studied based on ant colony. The rank based ant system is applied on VM allocation and VM migration. It is found that the proposed approach observe better performance.
