Cloud model-based algorithm for uncertain strokes of interactive sand painting

Tao Wu, Xia Chen, Limin Zhang · 2017

Sand painting is a very new and popular performance art technique, and it has important meaning for the artistic creation. Computer-aided interactive sand painting is now in the ascendant, and its uncertainty fundamental is still an attractive and challenging topic. The paper provides a novel variant of cloud model based on the traditional definition, and proposes an interactive algorithm of uncertain strokes using cloud model, both normal and atomized cloud models are involved into the solution. The main process is the interactive generation of cloud drops and the painting of the corresponding strokes. The algorithm is tested using different parameters, and various painted images are obtained, then the influence of the aesthetic qualities on these images is also analysed, including stroke types, minimal distance between strokes, color modes, as well as quantitative comparisons using four aesthetic measures. The experimental results demonstrate that the presented method has the characteristics of uncertainty, simpleness and effectiveness, and it might be helpful to professional art performers and amateur users who have interest in sand painting or sand animation.
