Smooth video streaming in bandwidth fluctuating environment

Due to evolution of technology, internet, smart phones, tablets, the demand of VOD (Video on Demand) services are booming among internet users. One of the statistics given by Cisco that until the year of 2018, 78% portion of whole IP traffic is consumed by video traffic itself. This services are based on client-server model and network bandwidth between client-server plays a crucial role in order to provide smooth video streaming at client side. If available bandwidth is high enough to play high quality video then video is never going to be paused. It is the fact that bandwidth hardly remain constant so it is needed to find solution which enable the server to deliver constant video streaming even in bandwidth fluctuating environment. If we develop algorithm at client-server side which can detect available bandwidth of the connection after predefine interval then server deliver the quality of the video according to ABW (Available Bandwidth). For the bandwidth estimation, it is not appropriate to use dummy packets as they increase overhead or become reason of congestion in the network. Our approach is very straight forward as for the first few seconds we send video-data itself at varying bandwidth, first start with lower bandwidth and increase it gradually. Our algorithm backtrack when packet loss and packet delay value surpassing the predefine threshold value of packet loss and packet delay. Our bandwidth measurement approach is continuous as when again same event confronted then same process will repeat again.
