Human detection by active sensing using a laser range sensor and a pan-tilt camera

We developed an active-sensing system that mounts and moves a pan-tilt (PT) camera and a laser range sensor on a linear. Using face detection, the PT camera could detect the face of the person positioned behind another person; the surrounding environment was also detected. In addition, we confirmed the possibility of detecting five people using the active-sensing system that we developed.
