HISTORICAL CHARACTERISTICKS OF COUNTERFEITING AND PECULIARITIES OF CONDUCTING FORENSIC TECHNICAL AND CRIMINALISTIC EXPERTISE OF BANKNOTES

The article gives analysis of historical aspects of counterfeiting in Russia in the period from the18th to the 20th century. There has been stated improvement in detecting falsified banknotes in the Russian Federation in recent years, which can be explained by a high level of up-to-date technical devices (optical instruments, detectors of magnet pigment in colour, etc.) and computer examination. Specific features of technical devices and methods of forensic technical and criminalistics expertise of banknotes have been examined; algorithm of examining authenticity of banknotes, which includes detecting methods of reproduction of graphical information, has been offered. The main problems that appear in the course of counterfeiting have been examined, where the most significant are: the transnational nature of counterfeiting and insufficient training of experts in special studies in this field.
