Combining the paradigms Network Virtualization (NV) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is expected to increase adaptability and flexibility of communication networks like the Internet. However, the combination of NV and SDN demands new measurement procedures to reveal unpredictable operation as well as algorithms for faster provisioning of virtual networks. This thesis develops measurement tools, mathematical models, and Machine Learning-based optimization methods for combining NV and SDN.
