Since it is essentially a human endeavor, software is by its very nature prone to defects and errors. Although many software development tools have become available and widely accepted by industry in recent years, they are not infallible. Various defects still occur, or are injected into the software at various locations. Needless to say, it is highly desirable to either prevent such occurrences entirely or at the very least, detect and fix them early on in the process. This article proposes an optimal combination of various software inspection techniques, and also explores the best points of inspection within the various development phases of a software project.
