The Watershed Segmentation for Durians Classification

In this paper, we present the edge following algorithm for the watershed segmentation. We apply this novel method for durians classification; "Monthong" and "Chanee", the two popular durians in Thailand. The method can be divided into 2 major steps; the preprocessing and the segmentation. The color image of durian cultivar will be transformed into negative image for the sharpening matter in boundary detection process, and then cultivar image will be transformed into greyscale image as the last step in data preprocessing. In segmentation step, we used the watershed transform together with the Sobel gradient to segment durian cultivar. We used 8 images of Monthong cultivar and 8 images of Chanee cultivar for experimentation. The algorithm, the implementation and the results are shown in this paper.
