Review of the Book \"Data Analytics for Intelligent Transportation Systems\" [Book Review]
Christos‐Nikolaos Anagnostopoulos · IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Magazine · 2018
Data analytics technologies and techniques are widely used in commercial industries to enable organizations to make more-informed business decisions and by scientists and researchers to verify or disprove scientific models, theories and hypotheses. Depending on the specific application, the information may be historical records or new data that has been processed in real-time or it may be the result of a mix data channels. To this end, this book provides an in-depth report of data-enabled methods for analyzing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), including detailed coverage of the tools needed to implement these methods, using big data analytics and other computing techniques. The book surveys the characteristics of interconnected ITS, along with the fundamental concepts of how to analyze the plethora of the information produced. The major idea is to embark ITS scientists and engineers on the train of big data. As a critical overview, the book intends to educate a new generation of well-educated ITS engineers and managers, exploiting the overwhelming information that surround us, which may be exploited through big data analytics. The book may be a very valuable resource for PhD and MSc students, as well as engineers engaged in this very new and emerging topic.
