Security threats taxonomy: Smart-home perspective

Smart home is an intelligent set-up of sensors, actuators and protocols giving rise to new class of security and privacy issues. New threats and vulnerabilities being discovered frequently makes the topic more challenging and interesting. Recent security breaches in smart home set-ups has resulted in a decreased adoption and trust among users making it necessary to give a critical look on the topic. Since different class of threats have different characteristics and impact, a formal threat taxonomy scheme, related to smart homes is urgently needed to improve the understanding of threats among researchers and practitioners. This paper proposes a taxonomy of the threats specific to the domain of smart homes along with the brief description of all the possible threats.
