WSN has many applications and initially used for military applications. Nowadays WSN is used in almost every field. For example WSN is used in medical applications, disaster management, area monitoring, banking sector, smart industry monitoring and also used in smart living life in cites. Instead of many advantages of WSNs some limitations are still there. Limitations of WSN are energy limitation, delay, scalability, throughput and control overheads. To overcome these limitations, lots of research work has already been done and researchers are still working on the issues with WSN. We are also influenced and convinced from future scope in WSN and we are considering energy limitation of WSN as our research problem. In the proposed work we have considered a Bitmap assisted BEST-MAC protocol along with using a suitable cluster head selection process. This proposed work mainly focuses on energy efficiency of WSN. Proposed work will be completed in six steps and each step is described in section V. This work emphasizes on some issues like energy efficiency, scalability, control overheads, delay in WSN by improving existing work which is BEST-MAC protocol for smart cities. BEST-MAC focused on energy efficiency, overheads, delay and scalability in WSN. Our proposed work is an improvement over existing BEST-MAC protocol by improving cluster head selection process.
