A typical Internet of Things (IoT) platform adopts a Cloud-centric design, where virtually unlimited processing resources enable data analytics of unprecedented complexity. However, Cloud computing model is not suitable for many emerging IoT applications that require real-time interaction between sensing and actuator devices, predictable latency, location awareness and/or mobility support. Motivated by these challenges, we propose a new design of IoT platform which exploits benefits of decentralized Fog and Edge computing paradigms. In particular, we provide a background on the key design requirements for collaborative Cloud-Fog-Edge computing in IoT, emphasizing the challenges with regard to resource virtualization and communication interoperability between IoT devices belonging to different network domains. Further on, we present results of the work in progress on the prototype implementation and demonstrate its capabilities on the example of a smart solar panel grid.
